Researchers from Montana State University have found that “When added at a particular time in the growing cycle, baking soda more than doubled the amount of oil produced in half the time in three different types of algae.” !!!

“It’s great, but it’s frustrating… Why the hell didn’t we do this 20 years ago because we would be where we’d like to be by now.” - [Another one of the researchers, who was actually working on this in the 80’s till lack of funding forced him to stop.]
Btw, this might be the discovery we finally needed to make biodiesel economically competitive.
