Real Clever Science

My name is Ari Einbinder. This is the journal of my travels into the realm of science and science education.
I've worked at science museums in NY (NYSCI and AMNH) and across Europe. Currently I'm studying "museology" (aka museum studies) at UW in Seattle, WA. I'm also one of Tumblr's Science Section editors.

I discuss anything that fascinates me, but popular topics include evolution, transhumanism (e.g BCI), futurism, psychology, quantum computing, climate change, sustainability, genetic engineering and occasionally politics - to name a few.

As mentioned, I’ve been doing some hiking lately and thought I’d share some photos.

I think we’re inspecting a banana-slug in that first photo. Also, I recently learned that the latin name for them means “huge penised slug” because, well…
Also, slugs are hermaphrodites and often after making sweet slimy love, they’ll actually bite each-others penises off. One explanation is that they get stuck and need to get off, however some believe it’s a trick of evolution bc it forces the penis-less slug to only be a female and not compete with it for other sexy slugs. However, once one starts biting, the other usually does too, and so they both end as “females”. (link and link and link) Weirrrrrrrrrrrd.

Oh, and that middle-aged woman two of the photos is Kris Morrissey, the head of my program. There’s a lot I can say about her, but I’ll leave it short and just say that she’s awesome.

And that last photo isn’t a great shot of me aesthetically but I think it’s actually a pretty good example of my personality captured in a moment. =D
